Who’s Really in Charge Here?
The detective was shocked. He never would have come up with the right scenario on his own. It was only through hearing the accounts of several witnesses that the true meaning behind the clues could be discovered. Using the best tests on finger prints and advanced equipment was certainly helpful, but without witnesses, this detective really did not know what had happened. The best way to find out what really happened is the find a witness– someone who was there when the event happened.
The same concept can be applied to the age of the earth controversy. When someone makes a statement about the age of the earth, it’s important to remember that he or she was not there when things started. Neither were you or I, or anyone else throughout history. God was the only One Who was there. Because of this, we can trust what God says about how and when earth got here over what any other person says.
What the age of the earth really comes down to is a matter of who we decide to trust and let have authority over our lives. People change; they will make mistakes, let you down, and betray you. God says that He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8). His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9). He will never let you down (Matthew 28:20). He loves you in spite of who you are and what you have done – so much that He sacrificed His life to make a way for you to be with Him forever (Romans 5:8). On our own we are guilty and condemned sinners so there is no way we can earn His love or salvation (Romans 3:10, 23). It is only through His grace in taking the penalty we deserve that we can have a relationship with Him (Ephesians 2:8).
Letting anyone else have rule over your life is actually idol worship, which is against one of God’s laws – it’s sin. Who is in charge of your heart and mind? Do you let what other people (regardless of position or title) think or say rule your life or do you guide your life according to what God says?
